Van Halen's first album in over six years was released in the US today, July 20. "The Best Of Both Worlds" celebrates both the David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar eras of the band, with 36 of the group's most-prolific tracks, including three new songs recorded with Hagar.
In support of this new album, Van Halen has been on a nationwide tour this summer with Hagar. The three new songs are titled, "It's About Time," "Up For Breakfast," and "Learning To See." IAT was released to radio stations about two ago months, and has stayed in the Top 20 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.
There is no word yet on whether the reunited band plans to record a full-length album after this US tour is finished. Currently, the band is just starting the second leg of their tour, which will take them to the Midwest, then the West Coast, and on to the South.
Van Halen is hoping to duplicate the success their first "greatest hits" album achieved in 1996. That album, "Best Of Volume I" was lead by two brand new (at the time) David Lee Roth songs, "Me Wise Magic" and "Can't Get This Stuff No More," and debuted at #1 on the Billboard Album chart in October of 1996. It has since sold over three milllion copies in the US alone.
The band's last studio album, 1998's "Van Halen III" with Gary Cherone on lead vocals, charted as high as #4, but never achieved platinum status, the only one of Van Halen's albums not to do so. No songs from that album are represented on BOBW.
