Rumors swirled around the internet last week that Van Halen would make their much-anticipated reunion announcement with Sammy Hagar on Monday, March 15, or even the more Van Halen-friendly March 16. But both days went by without any official word. So what does this mean?
It probably doesn't mean much at all. There are several credible rock news sources mentioning Van Halen's reunion with Sammy, including Pollstar.com, who has reported that Van Halen has signed on with William Morris Agency and is currently booking North American arenas for a summer tour.
There has also been evidence of Van Halen being listed as a client on Irving Azoff's management team. Remember Azoff is famous for helping to launch the Eagles' comeback a few years ago, so this seems like the perfect marriage for a band that hasn't put out an album in six years.
Also, of lesser note, but of mention undoubtedly, the Official Van Halen Web Site has added a new logo and a "striped" design with the VH "swirl" logo. While it's obviously not much of an update, it is the first big change to the format in years. There is little doubt this change is not coincidental, and probably is indicative of something going on in the Van Halen camp.
And finally, last week, Melodicrock.com reported that Warner Bros. Special Markets has negotiated a deal with Van Halen, for a greatest hits package, that would include three new tracks. It was also reported that the advance for the deal was somewhere in the neighborhood of $1 million. All of this has of course yet to be 100% confirmed.
So as everyone has been doing since these rumors surfaced back in November...stay tuned for the next episode of "As The Van Halen World Turns!"
